Family Health Care of Ellensburg Recognized for Excellence

The Family Health Care of Ellensburg was recently awarded the Premera Washington state Healthcare Quality Leadership Award. This award was given to clinics that provided the highest quality of care in Washington. Premera evaluated Washington State Providers based on three treatment categories – chronic disease management, preventive care and acute care.

Family Health care is an Independent Rural Health Clinic located in downtown Ellensburg, WA. They currently have a total of seven providers – 4 physicians and 3 midlevels. Dr. Haney, the founding physician enlisted the help of fellow church members in the building of the clinic. He has a heart for rural health care and is passionate about providing quality care at a reasonable cost. With each provider seeing 18-20 patients daily the clinic currently provides about 1/3 of the primary care in given Ellensburg.

The clinic has a well-developed EMR with build in computers in all of the exam rooms. The visiting RHCAW Board Members were astounded at the limited space being used by paper charts.

Dr. Haney shared his concerns regarding the difficulty in recruiting and retaining providers to rural America. He is concerned that providers are relocating to communities that have a full time hospitalist program. The clinic is currently recruiting with the hopes to expand the number of physicians in its current facility.
